FYLDE NEW STADIUM APPROVED

Plans for AFC Fylde's new stadium complex have been approved by the local council.
The stadium, situated on the A585 at Wesham just off junction 3 of the M55, will have a 6,000 capacity including a 2,000 seat main stand, restaurant, executive boxes and a supporters bar.
The site plans, due to open for the start of the 2016/17 season, also include a supermarket, hotel and pub/restaurant.

Meanwhile, contractors have started work on a new stand at Fylde's current ground Kellamergh Park.
The 250 seat structure situated at the Warton End of the stadium, is scheduled to be open for the start of next season, when The Coasters will be playing in the newly re-named National League North, following their play-off defeat yesterday to Guiseley.



UPTON PARK PLANS UNVEILED

 

The developers appointed by West Ham for the redevelopment of Upton Park have revealed their plans for the site.
Over 800 homes, in blocks of up to 15 storeys high are proposed, although the plans have attracted criticism due to the lack of affordable social housing.
The plans also include 'commercial and community floorspace'.


IMPS IN DAMBUSTERS TRIBUTE

Lincoln City have started a fundraising campaign to install a mosaic tribute to the Dambusters, in the seats of the main stand at Sincil Bank.
The Dambusters Squadron were based at nearby RAF Scampton.


With a target of £150,000 to cover the initial installation work, the campaign will fund the mosaic which includes images of an Avro Lancaster and Lincoln Cathedral.

MONKS CROSS APPROVAL FOR YORK

York City Council have approved plans for the Minstermen's new 8,000 capacity stadium.
The site at Monks Cross, to the north-east of the City, is next to an existing Park and Ride facility.
Construction work on the £37 million development, which also includes a leisure centre, cinema, shops and restaurants, is due to start in June.
City expect the stadium to be open for the start of the 2016/17 season.

LOST GROUNDS
Millmoor Rotherham

Opened on the site of a former flour mill in 1907,
Millmoor was the home of South Yorkshire side Rotherham United until 2008.
Whilst the stadium and its environs could never win any architectural or scenic awards, the ground had an atmosphere and spirit which is slowly being eroded from English football.
Millmoor was surrounded on three sides by scrapyards and the railway serving the former Westgate station, indeed the only access to the former away end was via a narrow alley behind the Millmoor Lane stand.

The club's plans to develop the site, including the ill-fated main stand where the steelwork was completed, were finally shelved following a dispute over the land surrounding the stadium, a dispute which led to the Millers vacating Millmoor and moving temporarily to the Sheffield Don Valley stadium in 2008.
The capacity of the ground at its closing was reduced to 8,300 - the record attendance, for a local derby v Sheffield United in 1952 was 25,170.

In July 2012 Rotherham finally moved into the 12,000 capacity New York Stadium, a short walk from Millmoor.
Built on the site of the former Guest & Chrimes foundry, famous for manufacturing fire hydrants for the City of New York (see Stade Images below), the club has retained its links with the town's proud industrial heritage.

NEW STAND OPENS AT HARROGATE TOWN

Harrogate Town have opened a new stand at the Hospital End of the CNG Stadium, with the aid of a grant from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund.
With a standing capacity of 750-800, the stand also includes a new food bar and improved toilet facilities.
The club also have planning permission for a new stand on the Wetherby Road side of the ground.


SCARBOROUGH NEW STADIUM COMPLEX

Plans for the new Scarborough Athletic stadium have gone on show.
The proposals for the 2,000 capacity ground, to be built on the site of Weaponness car park, also include a leisure development comprising a 25m swimming pool, sports hall and squash courts.
The club, which plays its home games in Bridlington, left their former home on Seamer Road in 2007.

CAMPAIGN TO FUND QUAKERS RETURN HOME

The fund set up to help the return of Darlington to their home town for the start of the 2015/16 season, has reached its initial target of £225,000.
The Quakers plan to share the Blackwell Meadows ground of Darlington RFC, and are planning an upgrade which will see a 3,000 capacity ground with a new 225 seater stand.
The club are currently playing in Bishop Auckland.

IRON PLANNING APPLICATION DETAILS

Scunthorpe United have confirmed the details of their new stadium planning application.
A 12,000 all-seater stadium is due to be built at Lincolnshire Lakes, a short distance from Glanford Park, by May 2016.
The development will also house a new commercial park comprising offices, gymnasium and cafes.

PUBLIC ENQUIRY FOR BEES ?

Brentford may face a public enquiry to secure the final piece of land for their new stadium at Lionel Road.
The owners of an office block have objected to the issue of a Compulsory Purchase Order at the site.
The Bees plans to start work on the project in late 2015, for the 20,000 seat stadium, houses, hotel, and shops are temporarily on hold.

KV Kortrijk

The Guldensporenstadion, home of Belgian top-flight club KV Kortrijk has a unique claim to fame - being named after a 1302 battle in the City between the local Flemish population and the French occupiers.
The date of the Battle of the Golden Spurs, July 11, is now a national holiday for the local Flemish community.
The stadium is quite basic and of traditional design, with single-tiered stands on all sides, and has seen a rise in capacity over the years.The club originated in 1901, and in its current guise is a result of mergers between clubs in the City over the years. 
KV are currently involved in the Belgian Pro-League Championship Round play-offs

Kortrijk itself is an attractive City,the capital of Flemish West Flanders. 
Situated just 26 miles south-west of Ghent and 16 miles north-east of Lille, the City is part of the Eurometroplis urban area and remains an important region within the Belgian textile industry.
The first City in Belgium to pedestrianise a shopping street, much of the historical and compact centre is now a pedestrianised area, and walking is an ideal way to see the sights.
Attractions include the Theatre Square,the Medieval City Hall on Grote Markt, and the Broel Towers on the River Lys.
Kortrijk is also a bustling University City, with a host of lively bars and restaurants to cater for all tastes.

SPURS CLEAR FINAL STADIUM HURDLE

Tottenham Hotspur have cleared the way for their planned £400m redevelopment of White Hart Lane, after the family company fighting a compulsory purchase order for their Paxton Road site lost its High Court challenge.
Spurs can now progress to buy all the land necessary to proceed with the construction of a new 56,000 capacity stadium, just north of their current home.

UNCERTAINTY OVER DE KUIP REDEVELOPMENT

With concerns over the preferred contractor for the stadium construction, and the club seemingly unable to decide on the final capacity, Feyenoord's redevelopment of De Kuip remains clouded in uncertainty.
A new developer may now be appointed, with the capacity of the redeveloped stadium reduced from 70,00 to around 60,000.

YORK SUBMIT MONKS CROSS PLANS

Work is due to start shortly on the new 8,000 capacity stadium for York City at Monks Cross.
The contractors, ISG, have been appointed on behalf of the developers Greenwich Leisure Limited.
The scheme includes enhanced leisure facilities at the complex, and an extension of the City Park and Ride facility.
Work is due to be completed by Autumn 2016.


CHELSEA APPROACH BRIDGE DEVELOPERS

Chelsea are in talks with Swiss firm Herzog & de Meuron, architects for the Allianz Arena in Munich, over their plans for the Stamford Bridge redevelopment.
The Blues are hoping to increase capacity at the Bridge to 60,000, within the existing site boundaries.
The work will almost certainly see Chelsea seeking a temporary home, with Twickenham and Wembley the most likely venues.

FURTHER DELAY FOR BROADHURST PARK

Problems with steel work and on-site storage has resulted in a further delay to FC United of Manchester moving into their new home.
Originally planned to open in September 2014, the club hope to finally take ownership of the Moston site in May 2015.
One of the first games at the ground will be a friendly v Benfica 'B', a match which will celebrate the opening of the stadium and the club's 10th anniversary.

DESTINATION Durham

With its Cathedral and Castle being a World Heritage site, ancient cobbled streets and stunning riverside walks, the historical city of Durham is one of England's favourite destinations.
Founded in 1093 and dominating the skyline of the city, Durham Cathedral is one of the finest examples of Norman architecture.
Palace Green, with the cathedral on one side and the castle on the other, is the perfect place to sit and watch the world go by.
Other attractions include boat trips along the River Wear, the Durham Light Infantry Museum and the Oriental Museum.
Being the home of a major University, the city always has a lively feel which is mirrored in its nightlife, although there are plenty of quieter pubs and restaurants to enjoy.
The city also boasts the impressive Gala Theatre and cinema complex.
Durham is the ideal base for visiting the rugged and often overlooked areas of Weardale and Teesdale, where you can enjoy fine walks and picturesque villages in a stunning, but often very quiet environment.
Beamish Open Air Museum close by is well worth a visit, and for cricket fans nearby Chester Le-Street is the home of Durham County Cricket Club.

NEW BRUSSELS STADIUM DECISION IMMINENT 

A decision is expected soon on the preferred bidder to construct the new Belgium national stadium in Brussels.
Close to the site of the 50,000 capacity King Baudouin (Heysel) stadium which opened in 1930, the new 60,000 venue will be home to the National team and club side Anderlecht.



HAMMERS OLYMPIC SEATS ON SALE

West Ham have started the process of selling tickets at the Olympic Stadium, by offering current season ticket holders the chance to claim seats at their new home, but they must first purchase season tickets for the final campaign at the Boleyn Ground.
The club also report strong corporate sales at the stadium, where the Iron are due to move in the summer of 2016.



COVENTRY TO LEAVE THE RICOH ?

The future of Coventry playing at the Ricoh is once again in doubt, following the sale of the stadium to rugby union club Wasps.
The Sky Blues are committed to a ground-share for the next four seasons, but the club will now pursue plans for a new stadium in the city, in order to maximise match-day income as they aim for an eventual return to the Premier League.



ANFIELD EXPANSION UNDERWAY

The first phase of the Anfield redevelopment is underway, with work to increase the capacity of the main stand by around 8,500 seats in progress.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have received approval to build an electricty substation near the ground, which will generate enough energy to run the redevelopment project.


SPIDERS RETURN TO HAMPDEN

Queens Park have returned to playing at Hampden Park, following their relocation to the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie due to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
In other Hampden news, the Scottish FA are apparently looking at moving away from the National Stadium, where the lease to host matches expires in 2020.

LOST GROUNDS Bradford Park Avenue

One of the most famous of the 'lost' football grounds, Park Avenue in Bradford was one of the few venues to host both League football and First class cricket.
Opened in 1872, the ground was the home of Bradford Park Avenue from 1880 until 1973, when the club had to sell the site for financial reasons.
The stadium's record attendance was 32,800 for a match v Blackpool in 1944.
After years of struggle, the club were voted out of the Football League in 1970, and finally went into liquidation in 1974.
Park Avenue hosted its final First class cricket match in 1996, when Yorkshire played host to Leicestershire in the County Championship.
The cricket pitch is still used to this day by the Bradford College Cricket Academy.
Today, most of the perimeter wall of the ground still remains, with the site of the football pitch mainly covered by an indoor sports facility.

Bradford Park Avenue are now playing at the Horsfall Stadium, a 3,500 capacity venue also used for athletics, just a mile away from Park Avenue.
The club are currently members of the Conference North League.
